Boulder Valley Music Curriculum Overview
The Boulder Valley Music Curriculum provides the foundation for quality music instruction, aligning with the Boulder Valley Academic Standards for students from preschool to 12th grade.
1. Expression of Music
This standard focuses on performing music as a way to express human thought and emotion. It reflects the skills and knowledge gained through studying music.
2. Creation of Music
Creating music involves composing, improvising, and arranging. Students demonstrate their understanding by writing new pieces, adapting existing ones, or creating original music.
3. Theory of Music
Music theory helps students understand how music works—the language, structure, and mechanics of sound. A strong grasp of theory supports both performance and composition.
4. Aesthetic Valuation of Music
This standard teaches students how to evaluate music thoughtfully. It explores the emotional and artistic qualities of music and helps students make informed judgments, both personal and academic.
